Nigeria Professional Football League week 9 Round up

Posted on 9:55 AM by Unknown

*KADUNA UTD defeated EL-KANEMI WARRIORS in Kaduna courtesy of a goal from Iliya Dibo and this victory moved them to 16th position with 11 points.

*In another encounter, Okiki Musampa brace handed the Baribote boyz NEMBE CITY a deserving 3 points when they pipped GOMBE UTD 2:0 to take them to 5th position on the log.

*John Kollins strike cancelled out Victor Namo spot-kick to ensure both NASARAWA UTD and LOBI STARS shared the point in Lafia township stadium.

*Goal from Chiamaka Madu and Abraham Ezeoha handed SHARKS FC a 2:1 win over BAYELSA UTD. Gomo Onduku strike has put BAYELSA boyz in front in the early half-hour but the blue angels turn the match around to give Gbenga Ogunbote the 2nd win of the season.

*In Ilorin, Ibrahim Abdullahi strike for ABS ensured that 3SC quest to get at least a point on the road for the past 2 seasons prove abortive when the young lad struck home the winner for Abubakar Bukola Saraki boyz to end the stalemate encounter 1:0.

*HEARTLAND also beat WIKKI TOURIST by 3:0. Happy Okuoka 6th minutes strike, Isah akor 51st minutes goal and Esom Tochukwu 89 minutes strike command the 3 maximum points for the Naze Millionaire over Bauchi based team.

*SUNSHINE STARS walloped AKWA UTD 3:0 in Akure township stadium. Dele Olorundare's brace and Ajani Ibrahim strike gave the Akure gunners a well deserving victory over their counterpart from Akwa-Ibom state. Meanwhile, this victory has pushed them into 2nd position in the log with 17 points but only goal difference separate them with Rangers who occupied the 1st position.

*The peoples elephant secure a 2:0 victory over DOLPHINS FC in Aba township stadium. Ifeanyi Edeh's 10th minutes strike and Ugo Nwachukwu 61 mins goal ensure the former Africa champion ENYIMBA FC moved to 10th position with 12 points in 9 games.

*WARRI WOLVES also pipped 10-man Afonja warrior by 2:1. Musa Najare struck twice in the 13th and 26 mins before Sidi Lawal pull one back for KWARA UTD in the 36th minutes. Goalkeeper Suraj Aiyeleso see red in the 56 minutes for a bad tackle on the star man Musa Najare but Warri based team failed to capitalize on the opportunity of the red card as both teams failed to score in the 2nd 45 minutes.

*It was the rain of goals at the Nnamdi Azikwe stadium in Enugu as the star match of the week 9 between the RANGERS INT'L vs KANO PILLARS ended 4:0. Goal from Dada Bitrus 14th, Oduokpe Oghogho 17th and Alhaji Gero 24th mins ensured the flying antelopes are leading 3:0 in the 1st half before the former Gombe united player Sanusi Sani brought in and finished off the Maisugida side. This victory has set RANGERS into 1st position with 17 points in 9 games.

Cossy Orjiakor wants MIKEL OBI in her bed

Posted on 9:47 AM by Unknown

Cossy Orjiakor is so much about her romantic life and relationship with top Nigerian soccer stars in Europe as well as her hidden love for Mikel Obi.
Who is your favourite Nigerian footballer?
(smiles)I don’t want to mention names. Whenever I am watching a football match instead of enjoying the game I derive joy in watching how the players’ ‘thing’ dangle in their shorts and their muscles too. It’s romantic indeed. It trips me and you know what it means and the consequence…

Which of the Nigerian players have you watched in action that tripped you?
Okay here you come again. I won’t mention his name but I can give you a clue by mentioning the name of his club if you insist.
So what is the name of the club?
It’s Chelsea.
Is it Mikel Obi?
I think you should be talking about Mikel Obi.You might be absolutely correct. I will say yes if you think you guessed right.
What do you like about Mikel?
He is a cool and handsome dude, you know. During the Nations Cup which Nigeria won he emerged as one of the sexiest footballers in South Africa.
So you are tripping for him?
I have said enough so it is left for you to sort it out.
Have you ever met Mikel one on one before?
I have not, but I am looking forward to meeting him on a good day.

Jason Collins an NBA player said he is Gay and Proud

Posted on 9:25 AM by Unknown
Jason Collins

Collins, who played with the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards this season and is now a free agent, made the announcement in an interview with Sports Illustrated, published on Monday,

"I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay," he said.

"I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation.

"I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, "I'm different." If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand," he added.
The 34-year-old has played for six teams in the NBA and reached the NBA finals twice and says he intends to continue in the sport.

Former US President Bill Clinton, whose daughter Chelsea was a classmate of Collins at Stanford University, issued a statement applauding Collins for coming out.

"Jason's announcement today is an important moment for professional sports and in the history of the LGBT community," Clinton said.

"It is also the straightforward statement of a good man who wants no more than what so many of us seek: to be able to be who we are; to do our work; to build families and to contribute to our communities. For so many members of the LGBT community, these simple goals remain elusive.

"I hope that everyone, particularly Jason's colleagues in the NBA, the media and his many fans extend to him their support and the respect he has earned."

Review of Week 7 the Professional Football League

Posted on 9:15 AM by Unknown

Peoples’ Elephant Disappoints Aba Fans Again As Flying Antelopes Tears Dolphins
Apart In A Weekend Full Of Goals

Week 7 of the Nigerian PFL produced a total of 23 goals scored.

Table toppers Kano Pillars held homers Sharks to a 0:0 draw in Port-hacourt as Warri Wolves finally won their 1st match of the season in style by humiliating El-Kanemi of Maiduguri 4:1 at the Warri Township stadium with Etebor Oghenekaro scoring the 1st hatrick in the Nigerian PFL this season.
Sunshine Stars of Akure also pummeled Wikki Tourist of Bauchi at 3:0 at the Akure Township stadium.Super Eagles defender and skipper of Sunshine Godfrey Oboabona opened the floodgate before Olorundare Dele scored the 2nd.

As at the time of putting up this result,I am yet to get the scorer of the 3rd goal.A brace by David Tyakase and one by Isa Akor saw Heartland finally give their fans reason to smile as they dismissed Lobi Stars of Makurdi 3-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Oweri while neighbours Rangers International humbled Dolphins of Port-hacout 3-0 with Super Eagles fring playerChibuzor Okonkwo helping himself with a goal after Ajaebo Chimezie had put them ahead.
Efe Yarhere scored the 3rd to make it a memorable weekend. It was however not a good day for two time African Champions Enyimba of Aba as they played a barren draw with Kwara United in front of their home fans.
It will be the second draw in Aba even as the league isjust 7 weeks old.Okiki Musampa's lone strike helped Nembe City pip hard fighting Kaduna United 1:0 at theSamson Siasia stadium Yenegoa while ABS sounded Bayelsa united 2:0 in Ilorin with Thomas Zenke and Abdulraman Bashir scoring a goal each.

3SC survived the initial scare of of considering a goal first as they came back from behind to wallop Akwa
United of Uyo 4-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasimgba Ibadan.Gbolahan Salami started the
resurrection by putting away a penalty before Chima Akas made it 2 via freekick,Toluwase Akindele made it 3 while Ogaga scored the last goal for 3SC.

OSAZE ODEMWINGIE NAMED THE TWAT OF THE YEAR AT WESTBROM

Posted on 7:41 AM by Unknown
http://e2.365dm.com/12/04/660x350/Liverpool-v-West-Brom-Peter-Odemwingie2_2754444.jpg?20120422181850
‘Oh, no, sorry, it’s ‘T**t of the year’ and the winner is Peter Odemwingie.’
Adrian Chiles has re-opened the row between Peter Odemwingie and West Bromwich Albion after ridiculing the controversial striker at the club’s official awards’ dinner last night.

The ITV Sport presenter was the host for the evening at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham in front of an 800-strong audience.

The 46-year-old, a diehard Baggies supporter, drew a mixed reaction from the assembled audience when he introduced a prize for the tweet of the year.

Odemwingie has made several outspoken comments during the season via social media on the back of an abortive attempt to secure a move to QPR in January.

Chiles said: ‘Our fourth award of the evening is ‘Tweet of the year.’

‘Oh, no, sorry, it’s ‘T**t of the year’ and the winner is Peter Odemwingie.’

The audience was split between laughter and embarrassment as the reality of what Chiles had said sunk home.

A club spokesman confirmed afterwards that the former One Show host had been given a script to follow and that he had veered from it.

Odemwingie has found it difficult to re-establish any rapport with the club’s fans following the incident as the transfer window closed in January.

Since then he has been fined for several outbursts on twitter and has struggled to re-capture a first-team spot.

He was not present to hear the offending remark. Sources close to Odemwingie suggested he was suffering from a common cold and had communicated his decision to stay at home.

However, feelings among the supporters continue to run high at the player’s perceived slight.

When the large screens showed individual player contributions to the Baggies’ season, Odemwingie’s name was greeted by significant booing from those present when a selection of video clips was run.

Ironically, with Marc-Antoine Fortune suspended for this weekend’s visit of Wigan Athletic to the Hawthorns, the forward may have been in line for a recall.

But Chiles’s comments have only served to highlight the schism between club and player and the former Nigeria forward, who still has one season left to run on his current contract, will need further reassurance to remain at the club following this embarrassment.

Maigari makes important decisions on Nigeria football without contacting NFA Board, members say PREMIUM TIMES

Posted on 7:10 AM by Unknown

The NFF board say they find out about important issues from the papers.

The leadership of the Nigeria Football Association has been accused by some of the Association’s board members of taking major decisions without consulting the board.

The NFA has 12 executive members and major decisions discussed by any committee are expected to be taken to the board for final vetting before they are carried out.

Some board members who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES expressed their shock and disbelief at the fact that some decisions were taken without informing the board.

A board member who pleaded anonymity said, “Yes the NFF (NFA) President and Chris Green (the Head of Technical Committee) have been making major decisions on the board without carrying members along; so many things we only learn from news reports.

AFCON Hero, Godfrey Oboabona linked to French League - Valencienes

Posted on 11:02 AM by Unknown

French Ligue 1 side Valencienes have made an official bid for Nigeria international defender Godfrey Oboabona.

Top official of Sunshine Stars Mike Idoko told MTNFootball.com: "The only team who have tabled a bid formally and officially for Oboabona are Valencienes from France.

“We have their document and we are studying it. We haven't got any contact from Newcastle over his services."

Idoko would not reveal how much Valencienes are willing to pay for the 22-year-old versatile player who shone at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

"I can't tell you how much, but Valencienes have made an official bid for him," he maintained.

Valenciennes were founded in 1913 and play their home games at the 25,000-capacity Stade du Hainaut. They won the French lower league championship in 1970 and 2006.

They are currently 12th on the 20-team Ligue 1 table with 40 points from 33 matches.

Several top European clubs including Arsenal, Lille and lately Newcastle United have been linked with the Sunshine skipper, who could play at centre back, right back or even as a defensive midfielder.
